Default What would you do?

Loads of people are starting to think about the summer now - and gap years, or just a few months off..

What do you want to do? Is it all about earning money or is it about having a wicked time and experience somewhere, and you're not too worried about cash.

There are some great volunteer jobs in Africa at the moment, and a lot of charities are helping people raise money so that they can go on placements. There's also loads of voluntary work in the UK, with a number of great charities. Let us know what you're thinking of and we'll see if we know anything that might suit you..

Hi there! During my gap year I'm planning to take part in an Amazon rainforest conservation project in Peru, organised by a company called Projects Abroad. I've already heard many positive opinions about this organisation, but I'm more than happy to hear about your experiences too. I know they are offering a lot of different volunteer abroad opportunities, so perhaps having a look at their website can be useful to those who are still looking for something suitable. Good luck everyone, I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Default Want to do something different with your gap year?

If you want to do something a bit different with your gap year, then why not consider becoming a Special Police Constable with the Hertfordshire Constabulary? In this role you'll be working alongside existing officers calming disputes, answering phones and taking part in special initiatives. This is an opportunity that will give you a set of transferrable skills, introduce you to some great people, and provide you with a truly unique experience.

On behalf of Hertfordshire Constabulary Special Constables

Default Summer Fair

I guess if you really do not know what to do during your gap year, why not visit the Guardian London Graduate Fair by The Careers Group from the 23rd and 24th of June 2010.

The Guardian London Graduate Fair by The Careers Group brings together two of the biggest names in graduate recruitment, and attracts graduates and students from universities across the UK and the world, as well as recruiters from top global organisations.

If you wish to attend this fair, do visit

A gap year is a great chance to get out and see the world, yes ou can do some volunteering which looks very noble on the CV but actuallty navigating yourslef around the world, especially in countries that have a different language help you hone lots of trasnferable skillls and the experience will make you better as a person. I would probably recommend 5-6 months travel, 1-2 vulunterring and the rest working, saving up the hard-earned cash!!
