Post Compare Student Bank Accounts

With freshers week well under way and some students waiting on their student loans, choosing the right student bank account will help you begin managing your uni or college finances correctly and should set you up for a hassle free time when it comes to money.

Important factors to take into consideration when choosing a student bank account include: interest free overdraft facilities, authorised overdraft interest rate, unauthorised overdraft interest rate, unauthorised overdraft charge and any incentives they currently offer.

Banks with student accounts (more info and rates to come):

Abbey
Barclays Bank
Clydesdale Bank
The Co-operative Bank
HSBC
Halifax
Lloyds TSB
Natwest
Royal Bank of Scotland
Smile
Yorkshire Bank

Default prepaid mastercard

Hello. I’ve been banking with Barclays but I’ve also recently applied for a prepaid mastercard called Cashplus. It’s an easy way for students to shop online and is very safe. I’ve been using it for over 3 months now and am really pleased with it. The best thing about it is that you’re guaranteed to be accepted and you can even use it to build up your credit history!

Default

I use hsbc who gave me 1500 pound overdraft limit which increases by 250 for every year you are at uni! You also don't get charged for being in your overdraft for 5 years! I also got a credit card with 500 limit for emergencies and again its interest free for 5 years so very good to build up credit history! They also come with perks like free travel insurance etc!!
